Level Up in 2024: Crush It In The New Year (And Be Kind To Yourself, Please)
It's 2024... Week one is down! I love the New Year and January in particular because of XC Skiing (YESSS), beautiful clear January days, and the feeling of a FRESH start!! I enjoy New Years Resolutions because they are about LEVELING up your life. Don't you want to be the type of person who sets killer resolutions, stays on track, and blows everyone away when you accomplish your goals? I find those people to be an inspiration.
Know Your Goals? Sometimes I have SO many goals I get overwhelmed. It helps to break them down using the SMART criteria: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. We talk about this in our Keller Williams classes, however it's a concept that's taught across business coaching. Whether it's fitness, career, or personal growth, it helps to make things tangible. Instead of "get fit," try "run a 5K in 3 months."
Focus: I believe in quality over quantity! I narrow down my resolutions to a few key areas that really matter to me. I'm a firm believer that you don't have to conquer your entire life this year- just pick key aspects where you want to improve. I'd rather do 1-2 things really well than 7 things meh.
Execute: I think it helps to divide goals into bite-sized tasks and set a timeline. Planning not only keeps me organized but also makes the journey less overwhelming. My google calendar helps me stay on track when I remember to TIME BLOCK for the things that are truly important.
Communicate: If I share my goals with others.... I'm committed. I dare you to share your goals! Accountability and encouragement go a long way. Need a village? Find a group online you can connect with. I remember in a business training last year we heard a statistic that people who write their goals down are MUCH more likely to achieve their goals (I can't remember the % but it was significant!).
Flex: We all know that life is unpredictable, and that's OKAY. I have 3 kids so that's the way we roll around here. The key is to be adaptable when setbacks happen and adjust your strategies and timelines as needed. And be KIND to yourself. Resilience is your secret sauce to success. You are not a failure until you give up!
Celebrate: I believe that small victories matter! Celebrate your wins, no matter how tiny. Acknowledge the progress you've made—it's fuel for your journey ahead. Sometimes when you climb a mountain the path goes up and down but just stay on the path and you'll be headed in the right direction. (Side note: I really prefer flat hiking. Just saying.)
